Meet Our Staff

Joe Haskett

Pastor

I was born July 30, 1940 in Cullowhee, NC where I grew up and attended school. During my early teenage years I was saved during a revival meeting at White Rock Baptist Church in Cullowhee, NC. In 1958, I graduated from High School and then enlisted in the Army where I spent 3 years serving my country.

After I finished my time in the Army I met my wife during a revival meeting and we were married in September. I believe the Lord called me to preach during a revival meeting at Thickety Baptist Church near Clyde, NC in 1964. There was a desire in my heart to learn more about God’s Word and we moved to Greenville, SC where I attended Tabernacle Baptist Bible Institute. I received a Theology Degree in Bible in 1968.

I then took a correspondent course from Bethany Bible College and received a Bachelor of Theology Degree in 1983. I have pastored churches in South Carolina, North carolina and Georgia for 42 years. God has blessed me and my wife with 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. I am truly grateful for the ministry that God has allowed me to be a part of in my lifetime.

Margie Haskett

Pastor's Wife (Secretary)

I was born in Haywood County, North Carolina. I was saved at the age of 12 in Long’s Chapel Baptist Church in Weaverville, NC, where my father was pastor at that time. Even living in a pastor’s home, I never realized the necessity of spiritual growth until my early twenties. By this time, my husband was called to preach and it was my desire to follow him wherever God led him.

In all the different churches he has pastored and the ups and downs of the ministry, I can truly say, “I am content in whatsoever state I’m in.” I thank God for my husband and family who, by the grace of God, are all saved and serving the Lord. God has been so good to us. He has always provided and met every need, both spiritually and physically. My prayer is that we remain faithfull in service to Him ’til He comes.

Steve Funderburk

Music Director

I was born in 1967. My father was pastor, evangelist and songwriter, Bill Funderburk, and my wonderful mother, Betty Jo Funderburk. I grew up in a family blessed with rich southern gospel heritage right here in Union County. I was glorioiusly saved as a young man while attending Tabernacle Christian School. I came to Grace Baptist Church in 1997, which soon led to a full time position in the music ministry here at Grace. I am blessed to be a part of such a loving and caring church. My motto: “Always choose a song with a message, or it’s just words!”
