Grace Baptist Church was organized May 23, 1976, by Pastor Lloyd Gosnell (now deceased), with a membership of 118. The congregation met in the old Woods building in downtown Monroe, North Carolina.
In April 1976, five acres of land was purchased which is the present location of the church. The church built an educational building with Sunday school rooms at one end of the building and the auditorium at the other end with the idea of building a separate auditorium in the future. An additional three to four acres was bought in April 1977.
Pastor Joe Haskett became the second pastor in January of 1978. Pastor Haskett was at Grace until May 1983, moved to Georgia.
After serving ten years in Toccoa, Georgia, Grace Baptist Church became open and called Pastor Haskett to come back as pastor for the second time in October 1993. After his return the membership was excited about the growth and now realized the need of a new auditorium.
On April 8, 2001, we broke ground for the new sanctuary and on December 16, 2001 had our first service. On March 17, 2002, after the seats and stained glass windows were installed, we had our dedication service. Pastor Ray Haskett preached the dedication message and Pastor Joe Haskett prayed the dedication prayer.
Not only has Grace Baptist Church been growing in membership, but also spiritually because of the expository Bible messages preached by the pastor.
The deacons and leaders of Grace have always believed in pastoral authority and following the leadership of the pastor with respect as the under shepherd, following the direction of God’s Word.
